2024 Conference Field Trips

Field Trip 1: Saturday October 19- In the Footsteps of the Wolf

Join us to track wolves and other wildlife in the mountainous region of Val Chiusella. This special Alpine landscape is rich in biodiversity with local communities engaged in semi-traditional economic livelihoods.

We are guided by a local expert Adam Rose who will discuss wolf ecology and share the amazing story of how this shy and persecuted top predator is returning to the region after having been eradicated almost a century ago. Our adventure will lead us into some pristine mountain valleys where we will look for wolf tracks and signs and get in touch with the reality and mythology of this enigmatic and elusive animal.

We will take a short hike (3.5 km) to explore some wolf habitat, look for tracks and signs and have a full immersion experience in this biodiverse landscape. We will also meet the Mayor and local shepherds to discuss the practical realities of farming in wolf habitat.

Cost: 200 Euro
